Ladies, let me ask you a question, do you ever struggle with hair problems? What am I saying, of course, you do! We all do, there isn’t a single female out there who hasn’t had problems with her hair. Ranging from dryness to itchiness, greasy to brittle, I could go on and on, but you get the point. There are endless shampoo and conditioner brands out there that will tell you they’re the solution to all your problems. Don’t believe them! Not even for one minute.

While most shampoo and conditioner brands promise what they advertise, you still may not end up with the results you’d hoped for. There is no “cure-all” hair care magic in a bottle. You cannot buy a shampoo and conditioner that will take care of all your hair needs; it simply doesn’t exist. That’s why there are hair masks, to work miracles for your hair. Using hair masks have endless benefits on top of using your regular hair care products. Hair masks are like that extra boost or kick to give you shiny, lustrous hair that you’ve always dreamed of.

Hair masks have numerous benefits, below are five benefits of hair masks that everyone (and I mean everyone) has struggled with at one point or another. Also if you are a hair mask lover or would like to try a hair mask but don’t know where to start or simply can’t afford to break the bank, there are a few DIY hair masks to try as well.

5 Benefits of Hair Masks

Smooth and Shiny Hair

Using a hair mask at least once a week will make your hair extra smooth and shiny without being greasy or running the risk of developing dandruff. Instead of using your regular conditioner, apply a hair mask of your choice, and spread it all over your hair starting from the ends. Take your time in massaging the hair mask on your hair. Leave the mask for three to five minutes before washing it off with water. Allow your hair to air-dry so you can see the results.

Reverses Hair Damage

Hair damage can be caused by continually applying heat without protection. Hair straighteners, blow-dryers, and curlers weaken your hair’s cuticle causing it to fall or break. Hair starts to lose its natural moisture which causes frizzy hair. Using a hair mask is a great way to repair and strengthen the strands of your hair.

Re-hydrates Dry Hair

Doesn’t it annoy you when your hair feels dry and all over the place even before you leave the house? Having dry hair can ruin your day. Therefore, spending a few minutes of your day to apply a hair mask that will moisturize, nourish, and hydrate your hair is not a bad idea at all. If you live in a colder place, then using a hair mask with coconut oil or milk as the main ingredient can give your hair its much-needed minerals, electrolytes, and vitamins. If you can incorporate using a hair mask into your hair or shower routine, don’t be surprised to see your hair looking healthy after a few weeks.

Good for Colored Hair Maintenance

Applying color to your hair can be tricky. While it gives you a new and fresh look, there are also side effects of using chemical-based products on your hair. Hair coloring can cause dryness and thinning of hair especially if you don’t observe proper maintenance. Hair masks are great for restoring health and softness after intense hair color treatment.

Quick and Inexpensive Way to Pamper Your Hair

If you are looking for a simple and inexpensive way to pamper your hair without spending four to six hours in a salon and paying more than you can afford, buying a great hair mask is an excellent alternative. Make your hair bouncy and strong in under ten minutes. The more consistent you are with using a hair mask, the better the results.

Cinnamon and coconut oil mask

Hair that won’t grow? Try a cinnamon-based hair mask. The anti-microbial spice is known to stimulate blood circulation and promote hair growth and strength. Blend equal parts cinnamon and coconut oil together well. Apply the mask onto your roots and part, and massage into your scalp. Let it sit for 30 to 45 minutes and rinse. If your goal is hair growth, aim to do this mask at least once a week.

Green tea and apple cider vinegar rinse

The antioxidants and nutrients in this hair mask helps to calm and rebalance an irritated scalp. Peppermint oil is the perfect complement; it has anti-inflammatory properties and helps soothe and hydrate a dry scalp. In a medium-sized bowl, combine 1 cup of green tea, 2 drops peppermint oil, and 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar and mix well. Massage into the scalp and let sit for at least five minutes before rinsing.

Egg white and lemon mask

If you are prone to greasy hair, an egg mask can work wonders. Stick with just the whites, which have protein enzymes that help remove excess oil. Combine 1 egg white and juice from half a lemon. Smooth over hair from roots to ends and leave on for 30 minutes to an hour — longer is better. Rinse with lukewarm water, not hot!

Avocado, Egg, and Olive Oil Mask

This hair treatment provides the ultimate strength and shines for damaged hair. An avocado-based mask helps to rejuvenate and moisturize the scalp. Take half an avocado, 1 egg, 1 tablespoon olive oil, and 1 tablespoon honey. Apply to wet hair with your fingertips, starting at the bottom and working your way up. For best results wrap hair into a bun and cover with a shower cap. To help activate the ingredients, blow-dry your shower cap-covered hair for 10 minutes. Then let it sit for another 20 minutes and wash out in the shower.
